Faculty:

Kush R. Desai, MD, FSIR

Dr. Desai is an Interventional Radiologist and Associate Professor of Radiology, Surgery, and Medicine at Northwestern University. His primary research and clinical interests are in venous thromboembolic disease, deep venous thrombectomy/thrombolysis, reconstruction of chronic venous occlusions, IVC filter management/complex IVC filter retrieval, and interventional pulmonary embolism management. He serves as a venous advisor/co-chair of the Society of Interventional Radiology’s service line advisory board, and is a fellow of the society.  In addition, he serves as a reviewer for several journals, including Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, as a distinguished reviewer for Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders, and as a top reviewer for Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology. 

Carl Fastabend, MD, FACC 

Dr. Fastabend is a native of Richmond, Virginia. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in biology and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia, where he also completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Cardiology. Dr. Fastabend is board- certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and is a diplomate of the American Board of Phlebology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention.
Dr. Fastabend practiced interventional cardiology for over 30 years with a special interest in peripheral vascular disease. He specializes in the treatment of vein disorders and founded Vein Center of Southwest Louisiana in 2011.

Steve Elias MD, FACS, FAVLS

Dr. Elias is Director, Center for Vein Disease at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center NJ. He is the Founder of the American Venous Forum Fellows/Residents Course in Vein Disease which educates graduating physicians about the management of vein disease. His clinical interests include all aspects of minimally invasive vein care, both procedure development and teaching. Venous education of new and current practitioners has been the cornerstone of his commitment to modern vein care and its impact on patient outcomes for the last 20 years. Dr. Elias has lectured, written and taught about vein disease both nationally and internationally. He is also the Founder and Course Director of the annual Expert Venous Management Summit, a meeting that highlights advanced vein care. He is the Medical Director of VEIN Magazine and the Medical Editor of the American Venous Forum’s Newsletter, Vein Specialist.
